Sunday Runday! Solo half marathon!
I haven’t had a proper Sunday Runday for ages and was in desperate need of a long run, so much so that I haven’t hit double figures on a single run since my ultra marathon which was nearly a month ago.

Double thumbs up!
Having been working a lot lately, shift work has its perks like my 3 week break a month ago but generally it sucks, and being on call I’ve really struggled to get out of late and my runs have been sporadic at best.

Too many big gaps between runs this month
So this morning I set out to run a solo half marathon which also took in 10-11 miles of the Burnham half marathon route which is my home race and a race I love. A lot of people find it boring as its predominantly flat but having used all the country lanes for countless training runs it gives me an edge mentally as I know by the landmarks etc. exactly how far I have left to go and last year having that information allowed me to really drop the hammer for the last 3 miles resulting in me taking a massive 3 minutes off my PB and finishing 3rd local male which bagged me my one and only running trophy to date.
Anyway, back to this mornings run, I set off a little too fast but that was partly because I was running alongside stationary traffic on the main road out of Burnham, the traffic in and out of this town is a nightmare during the school holidays! Once I was past all that I settled down to a more steady 7.45min/mile pace and actually managed to more or less maintain that and my splits were pretty consistent. The weather was also a typical British summers day with rain at the beginning and end , sunshine when the rain stopped and wind the whole way round. Don’t you just love our summers!

Splits were pretty consistent
This has given me confidence that I can still smash out the miles and maintain a decent a pace although with Bristol half marathon in September and Burnham half marathon in October, where I’ll be on a mission to go sub 90 minutes and nab that 1st local male trophy, there’s lots of work to be done and I need to ensure I make time to put in the hard miles.
