Getting back into the swing of things
Life. Life has an annoying habit of getting in the way of things. I have been super busy lately which is why I haven’t blogged for a while. The good news is though that I’m finally getting back into the swing of things with my fitness.
That’s right, I’m finally injury free and pretty much running normally again. So much so that I actually ran a race 2 weeks ago!
I ran the Brean Down Challenge which I have done several times before, however this time I only ran the 5k. It was a wise decision as I definitely wasn’t ready for the 10k. It was the first time I’d run any proper hills since my IT band issue so it was good to come away unscathed.
There was also a great turnout by my running club, the Burnham Harriers. Since introducing a club championship at the start of this year, the amount of people racing has dramatically increased. Seeing all of my running club mates posing for pre race group photos was frustrating while out injured so it was nice to finally be apart of one.
During the race I felt ok and finished 9th out of 50 in the 5k which was ok considering where I was with my fitness. Its funny, if you follow me on Instagram you’ll have seen me talking about my fitness being poor. I’ve always maintained it will return in time but over the last couple of weeks its really improved.
My V02 max is the highest it’s been since I first got injured and my runs are feeling more comfortable. I’m still taking it steady increasing the mileage and pace with 10k being my longest run to date post injury. With a couple of races booked in over the next month or so its exciting times ahead!
Now that my injuries are behind me I plan to get back to the gym as soon as possible. The only problem is that I am working a lot at the moment which has added to my inability to blog regularly.
We also had a momentous occasion a week and half ago when our eldest daughter Isabelle turned 6. We threw Isabelle a big party and took her to Longleat for the day on her actual birthday.
Its important to find the balance between family, work and running but it’s not always easy. I see lots of people running 150-200 miles a month and I have no idea how they do it. I guess everyone prioritises different things but ultimately its about sacrifice.
Oh, one final thing, I never did get round to changing my sites name! I still intend to do it for now it remains the same!
